Hope Still Abounds

“…May the Lord be concerned about me. You are the One who helps me and saves me. My God, please don’t wait any longer.” (Psalm 40:17)
I can only imagine that – perhaps – you, too, have prayed a prayer similar to King David’s in Psalm 40 during a crisis in your life.
I did – 16 years ago this week (Aug 30) – when my wife (Melissa) and our 4 precious children (Makenah [8], Zachary [5], Nicholas [3], and Alenah[ [1]) all drowned after all 6 of us were plunged off the Kansas turnpike by a 7-foot wall of water into a deep deluge.
Even now:
Hope still abounds – because of Jesus Christ.
Hope still abounds – even after death.
Hope still abounds – even after the storms in your life.
Amid the grief and my seemingly endless tears in the months and years that followed my family’s deaths, the Hope of Christ still abounds.
How?  Why?
So many people asked me how I could continue to trust in a God who would allow something this tragic to happen.
The simple answer is that I made the choice to trust in Jesus through my distress.  Trusting God means faith in action.  Trusting God is free-falling into the arms of Jesus.
Simple, but not easy.
Will you trust that God can somehow turn your mess into a miracle by His grace?  He did it for me.  He can do it for you.
Here’s what helped:
1. Turn to God.
2. Trust in Jesus.
3. Keep your focus on Him.
Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus.  Don’t lose your focus.  Don’t lose your faith.  Don’t lose your fire.  Keep away from worldly vices, substances, and addictions.  Let God’s Presence consume you, especially amidst grief and struggles.
Stay in the Word of God and stand on His promises. “My God, I have come to do what you want. Your law is in my heart.”  (Psalm 40:8)  Memorize it.  Get God’s Word inside you.
Only Jesus can restore your soul and soothe your heart.  Only Christ can satisfy.
Surrender your crisis to God.  Place it in His mighty Hands.  Offer your pain and your tears up to Him.  God sanctifies suffering for His purposes – that you might experience His Presence and His mighty power in a deeper way you never before could have imagined.
Since August 2003, God has used my great test as a mighty testimony to His power.
“He gave me a new song to sing. It is a hymn of praise to our God. Many people will see what He has done and will worship him. They will put their trust in the Lord.” (Psalm 40:3)
Indeed, many people have witnessed the goodness of God through our family’s story since then: at least 287,000 people across 1,280 times I’ve freely shared God’s Good News since then. (All by invitation: no agent; no fees; pure God.)
“I haven’t kept to myself that what you did for me was right. I have spoken about how faithful you were when you saved me. I haven’t hidden your love and truth from the whole community.” (Psalm 40:10)
How we respond to a crisis determines the value that we – and others – receive from it.
Behold at least one soul that now Knows God through Jesus Christ as a result:
“A lady gave her heart to the Lord when you were here. She sat in the balcony when she would come to church and would hurry out after the service when she came once in a while. She was in the balcony on the Sunday you were here and heard your message. It touched her heart and she prayed the sinner’s prayer. Fast forward to today…she is a church member, church board member, teaches children on Wednesday nights, is on the praise team, and is very faithful and involved. She tells everyone that it was because of your message.” (Nazarene Church pastor – Ohio)
Praise the Lord for even 1 more soul in God’s Kingdom!  Glory be to God for lasting fruit.
Hope still abounds.
God truly works everything together for the greater good and for His greater glory.  (Romans 8:28)
If I can help serve in your area by sharing my testimony, please contact me.  You can help others experience the love of God and encounter the Good News of Jesus Christ.
By God’s grace, I’ve been freely sharing by invitation for 16 years now.  I’d be honored to come and serve you.  Please help spread the word – that others might encounter Christ and be encouraged.
Thank you for praying for me and Mighty in the Land Ministry – that much more lasting fruit might abound – because hope still abounds.
Please know that I pray and fast for you and your special intentions regularly.
Gratefully & faithfully,
-Robert Rogers
